Frequently asked questions about travelling to London

Best time to visit London

London is great all year round and the seasons offer different experiences from picnics in summer to ice skating at Somerset in winter. With a fairly temperate climate, summers tend to be fairly warm and, on occasions, can reach celcius temperatures exceeding late 20s. January is usually the coldest time of year; however, temperatures seldom drop below freezing.

How to ride the London Underground

The London Underground, or 'tube' as it's affectionately known, consists of 270 stations with 3,988 tube carriages carrying around 4.8 million passengers a day on 11 tube lines... phew!  Firstly you’ll need to remember to stand to the right on the escalators (walkers to the left). Once on the train, stand clear of the closing doors, they can give you a pretty decent knock if they hit you.  When getting on or off the train make sure you mind the gap!  Physical tube maps are available for free at most major stations and you can easily plan your route on the Transport for London website, various mobile apps and Google Maps.
